The boundaries of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) are set to expand significantly. Authorities have initiated steps to merge seven corporations and 21 municipalities into the GHMC jurisdiction, paving the way for enhanced development in Hyderabad.
Key Developments:
- Seven Corporations and 21 Municipalities: Plans are in place to integrate these areas into GHMC. Preparations are being made by officials from the Rangareddy and Medchal districts.
- Government Review: Three months ago, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy conducted a review with the urban development department and GHMC, instructing the integration of municipalities and corporations within the Outer Ring Road into GHMC.
Current Status of Suburban Areas:
- Financially Stable Municipalities: Only a few, like Narsingi, Manikonda municipalities, Jawaharnagar, and Bandlaguda Jagir corporations, are financially stable.
- Struggling Municipalities: Others, such as Ibrahimpatnam, Nagaram, Pocharam, Shamshabad, Turkayamjal, Adibatla, Badangpet, Boduppal, Peerzadiguda, and Meerpet, face financial difficulties. Some struggle to pay street light bills.
- Infrastructure Issues: Areas like Tukkuguda, Shamshabad, Adibatla, Meerpet, Bandlaguda Jagir, and Badangpet face complaints about poor road conditions and lack of attention from authorities.

Proposed Integrations:
- Uppal GHMC Zone: Merging Peerzadiguda, Boduppal corporations, and Pocharam municipality. A circle office may be established in Pocharam or Ghatkesar municipality.
- Quthbullapur GHMC Zone: Integrating Dundigal, Kompally, Medchal municipalities, and Thumkunta municipality with Jawaharnagar corporation into the Alwal circle.
- Serilingampally Zone: Merging Narsingi and Manikonda municipalities and possibly establishing a circle office in either Narsingi or Manikonda.
- Rajendranagar GHMC Zone: Merging Jalpalli, Shamshabad, Tukkuguda municipalities, and Bandlaguda Jagir corporation.
- LB Nagar Zone: Integrating Adibatla, Ibrahimpatnam, Pedda Amberpet, Turkayamjal municipalities, and Badangpet and Meerpet corporations.
The expansion of GHMC aims to streamline administration, improve infrastructure, and boost development in Hyderabad’s suburban areas.
