Over the years, it has evolved into a major hub for business, education, and healthcare. Now, the city is on the brink of another significant development\u2014the launch of the <em><strong>Patna Metro network.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patna&#8217;s existing public transport system has struggled to keep up with the city&#8217;s growing population, and the increasing number of vehicles has led to environmental pollution. To address these issues, the Bihar government announced the Patna Metro project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Patna Metro, owned and operated by the <em><strong>Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC),<\/strong><\/em> is being developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with an estimated cost of Rs 13,365 crores. In its first phase, PMRC will introduce two lines: <br>the East-West (Line 1) and North-South (Line 2), featuring a 23.30 km elevated track and a 16.30 km underground track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Patna Metro Rail Lines<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/pmrconline.in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Patna Metro<\/a><\/em><\/strong> will initially have two lines. However, PMRC plans to implement an advanced automated fare system using QR codes and NFC-enabled phones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Project History<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea of a metro system for Patna was proposed in 2011, given its population exceeded 20 lakhs. The Patna Metro project was deemed more feasible than a monorail. In 2013, the Bihar cabinet approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR), prepared by RITES.
