1. Introduction

More than 5,000 years ago, Lord Sri Venkateswara, also known as Srinivasa, Balaji, and Venkatachalapati, lived in Tirumala. Lord Varahaswami had already made Tirumala his home before him. Since then, a large number of devotees have persisted in building impressive entrances on the temple’s walls for many centuries. There are 16.2 acres of land dedicated to the temple complex.

2. Location:

3. How to Reach Tirumala?

i) By Road:

  • With a frequency of one bus every two minutes, Tirumala is accessible via direct bus from Tirupati. There are direct buses available as well from Vellore, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Paid taxis and private bus companies also offer service to Tirupati from surrounding cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, and Bangalore.

There is no Railway station in Tirumala itself. Tirupati, which is located about 26 miles from Tirumala, is home to the closest railway station. With five platforms and an escalator, Tirupati Railway Station is a significant railway hub. It has good access to all of India’s main cities.

iii) By Air:

About 15 miles from Tirupati, in the vicinity of Renigunta, is the closest airport to Tirumala. This domestic airport, which is now undergoing an upgrade to become an international airport, offers direct flights to Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, New Delhi, and Bangalore.

  • To satisfy a commitment, many devotees hike up the hills to Tirumala. Two carefully constructed stone footpaths go to Tirumala. Sopanamargas are the names of these routes. At the base of the hills at Alipiri, the oldest of the two sopanamargas begins. This 11-kilometer pathway is the most used route and is long. The shorter of the two sopanamargas, Srivari Mettu, is only around 6 kilometers long and begins in Chandragiri.
  • Restrooms, security, a canteen, drinking water, medical assistance, and piped religious music are all provided and maintained by TTD. In addition, TTD offers free luggage delivery services to devotees who choose to walk the hills to Tirumala.

4. Darshan Services at TTD

i) Sarvadarshanam

  • Every day, between 60,000 and 80,000 visitors go to the Sri Venkateswara Temple. To accommodate the large number of pilgrims traveling to Tirumala, TTD has established effective methods of darshan.
  • In the Vaikuntham Queue Complex II compartments, travelers can have free darshan as they wait their time to see the Lord. ‘Darshan for all’ is the meaning of the Sanskrit phrase Sarvadarsanam. On various days of the week, Sarvadarsanam has varied times. For timings, please check the weekly temple program.
  • On average, Sarvadarsanam is open for roughly 18 hours per day, and on busy days, it is open for 20 hours.
  • This darshan can be accessed through the Vaikuntam Queue Complex. A network of interconnecting halls makes up the complex, which leads to the main temple. The main temple is reached by passing through the Queue Complex in an orderly fashion thanks to a well-organized queue system.

TTD offers a variety of amenities in the queue complex, including:

  • Every three hours, waiting pilgrims are given free access to milk, coffee, and tea.

ii) Special Darshan

  • The creation of the Special Entry Darshan (Seeghra Darshanam) on September 21, 2009, aimed to assist pilgrims in obtaining a rapid darshan. Each pilgrim’s ticket costs Rs. 300, and one laddu is offered without charge. Booking is open twenty-four hours a day.
  • With effect from August 27, 2014, advance booking for special entry darshan is now available. Three hours before the Darshan Slot, pilgrims may reserve Special Entry Darshan tickets for the next day, subject to quota availability. When buying Darshan tickets, pilgrims have the option of making an eHundi offering.

iii) Special Darshan for Physically disabled and Aged

iv) TTD Devastahnam Darshan Timings

Early morning hours at Tirumala Tirupati Balaji Temple start at three in the morning. The next day, the temple shutters at 1:30 AM, however, General Darshan stops after midnight.

The many types of darshans and their corresponding times are listed below:

  • The general public is welcome to this Darshan, which is known as Sarva Darshanam. Every day of the week has a separate set of times.
  • The Darshan is available every Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday from 7:30 AM to 7 PM. From 8 PM till 1 AM the following morning, it resumes.
  • The Darshan is offered on Wednesday and Friday from 9 AM until 7 PM and then again from 8 PM until 1 AM the following morning.
  • On Thursday, the Darshan begins at 8 AM and runs until 7 PM, then from 8 PM till 1 AM the following morning.
  • It is for immediate darshan. VIP darshan (Sheeghra darshan). Each person’s ticket is Rs. 300. On the official website, www.ttdsevaonline.com, pilgrims can also make a reservation in advance. Every day at 9 AM to 3 PM, this Darshan is offered.
  • Tirumala Darshan by Walk (Divya Darshan) – This Darshan service is only available to devotees who choose to ascend the hill to the temple on foot. The two routes are Alipiri Mettu and Srivari Mettu.
  • Senior citizen-specific darshan is available to pilgrims every day between the hours of 10 AM and 3 PM. They must, however, provide authorities with confirmation of their age.

5. How to Book TTD Darshan Tickets Online

  • The TTD website requires pilgrims to register and receive a username and password in order to book Srivari Arjitha Sevas or lodging. Each registered user is granted only one seva within 180 days of Quota availability, and only one accommodation within 90 days of Quota availability.

  • After successfully reserving, the system will send email confirmations to the appropriate email addresses, and the booking confirmation will contain information regarding the reporting time for the pilgrims.
  • Users can provide feedback on the website tirupatibalaji.ap.gov.in. When only one person is permitted, the system permits the reservation of a maximum of two tickets for the same day and the same seva.
  • The website tirupatibalaji.ap.gov.in allows reservations for Srivari Arjitha Sevas 120 days before the quota is filled.

6. Accommodation at Tirumala

9. Dress Code in Tirumala at Darshan

  • To enhance the spiritual atmosphere among devotees visiting Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy in Tirumala, TTD enforced a traditional dress requirement in 2013.
  • Initially, the administrators introduced the Venkateswara Nithya Anadama Endowment Scheme specifically for pilgrims participating in Arjitha Sevas. However, they subsequently expanded it to include VIP pilgrims who seek a free darshan of Lord Sri Venkateshwara Swamy, as well as regular pilgrims who pay Rs. 300 or Rs. 50 darshan.

i) Dress Code for Men:

The preferred attire for men is a dhoti or pyjamas with an upper garment.

10. Annaprasadam at TTD:

  • On 6-4-1985, the T.T.D Devasthanam’s introduced the Venkateswara Nithya Anadama Endowment Scheme with the honorable Chief Minister of A.P. presiding over it. Sri Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao Garu provides complimentary meals to 2,000 pilgrims each day at Tirumala.

  • With effect from 1-4-1994, the authorities converted the plan into a separate trust called the “SRI VENKATESWARA NITHYA ANNADANAM TRUST.” The Executive Officer of T.T.D. serves as the Chairman of the Trust. Later, on April 1, 2014, they changed the name of the Trust to “SRI VENKATESWARA ANNAPRASADAM TRUST.”
  • The trust utilizes the funds donated by devotees and donors from around the world to operate. It places all the donations in nationalized banks and uses the money earned on those deposits to cover the trust’s expenses.
  • The qualifying donors will get an acknowledgment, an income tax exemption certificate under section 80(G) 50%, and donor passbooks. Prior to June 2008, the authorities at Sri Vari Tirumala Temple used to issue tokens to pilgrims who had darshan and consumed Annaprasadams.
