Ayodhya Airport: Phases

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) is overseeing the development of the Airport, which will unfold in three phases on an 821-acre site.

The first phase involves constructing a terminal spanning 65,000 square feet with a capacity for two to three aircraft per hour. The airport’s terminal building will measure 5 lakh square feet in the second phase. Its runway will be extended from 2,200 to 3700 meters. This will allow all foreign planes, including the Boeing 787 and 777, to land immediately in Ayodhya.

Vishal Infrastructure, based in Bangalore, was awarded the contract for the runway building. Architecture and design of Ayodhya Airport

The Ayodhya Airport will be raised to resemble the Ram temple, providing visitors with a glimpse into the Ramayana era.

“The airport’s design will represent Ram Mandir’s vision and ethos, eliciting a feeling of spirituality and establishing a sense of place for all passengers coming and departing from the airport. The glass façade of the station “will be designed to recreate a sense of being in the very palace of Ayodhya,” according to an AAI news release. The Nagara architectural style inspired the design. The columns in this section are based on the Ramayana’s seven Kandas. “Harsh Varshney, one of the airport’s architects, explained to ANI that they made an effort to capture the entire essence of Ramayana and Ayodhya. He further clarified that the main spirit behind the airport is to restore the magic and rekindle the lost touch of Ayodhya, which has been an eternal city in itself.

The capacity of Ayodhya Airport:

As per the statement, the new terminal building covers a total area of 6,000 square meters, designed to accommodate 300 people during peak hours, with an annual handling capacity of 6 lakh passengers. The first terminal is set to open by the end of 2023, while the remaining three terminals will be completed by 2025.
