1. New Expansion of Hyd Metro Project:
The state government approved Hyderabad’s metro rail network expansion with an INR 69,100 crore investment for basic infrastructure development. In the third phase, the metro will be extended by 278 kilometers, connecting new areas with fifteen new corridors.
The authorities will create four new corridors in the southwest, extending from Pharma City to Kandukur via Shamsabad Airport.
2. The decision for Metro Rail Network
Hyderabad’s authorities expect this expansion to address transportation, and traffic, and reflect the city’s continuous growth, rapid development, and increased population. The expansion plan will cover the Vishwanathapuram area and other densely populated regions with efficient metro connectivity.
The metro is currently covering about 70 kilometers, and the new expansion will take it up to 278 kilometers, connecting areas from Rayadurgam to Shamsabad Airport.
3. New Metro Lines
The Hyderabad metro extension will include various metro lines, double-decker metro rail systems, and elevated corridors. It will connect areas from Miyapur to Lakdikapul, Vijayawada to Hayatnagar, Uppal to Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, and extend the metro to Kothur-Shadnagar. Additionally, the plan includes a new metro corridor from ECIL to LB Nagar, spanning 5.5 kilometers.
4. Phases of the Metro Expansion
The second phase will extend the metro by 31 kilometers from Rayadurgam to Shamsabad Airport. In the third phase, the metro will expand by 26 kilometers from BHEL-Miyapur-Gachibowli-Lakdikapul, and five kilometers from Nagole to LB Nagar, with an estimated INR 9,100 crore investment. The state government has already sent a proposal to the central government for financial support to implement this project.
