In recent days, the engineering team of Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML), alongside experts from GC (SYSTRA), have carried out a thorough inspection of the Miyapur Patancheru metro corridor and LB Nagar-Hayatnagar Metro corridors Phase II , and also the Mailardevpally-Aramghar-New High Court spur line. These corridors run along major National Highways.
Addressing Engineering Challenges
To tackle the engineering challenges posed by existing and new flyovers along these routes, HAML Managing Director NVS Reddy held a strategic meeting with National Highway (NH) officials at Metro Rail Bhavan on Wednesday.
LB Nagar-Hayathnagar Metro Phase-II Corridor
For the LB Nagar-Hayathnagar Metro Phase-II Corridor, which spans approximately 7 km, an extension of the existing Metro viaduct at LB Nagar Junction is proposed. This will be constructed between two existing flyovers of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The alignment will follow the central median from LB Nagar Junction to the proposed Chintalkunta Metro station. Beyond Chintalkunta, towards Hayathnagar, the Metro alignment will shift to the left-side service road due to the construction of four new flyovers by NH authorities.
Miyapur-Patancheru Metro Corridor
The Miyapur-Patancheru Metro Corridor, extending roughly 13 km, is planned to be primarily built along the central median of the National Highway, except at BHEL Junction. NH authorities are planning a significant flyover, approximately 1.2 km long, at Gangaram (Madinaguda area). Engineers from both HAML and NH will explore the feasibility of a joint construction project for a double-decker flyover-cum-Metro viaduct in this section. This approach is considered due to the relatively narrow road stretch, the presence of underground and overhead utilities on both sides, and a large religious structure on the right side. HAML will prepare and submit a cross-sectional drawing of the proposed double-decker arrangement, featuring the NH flyover at the lower level and the Metro viaduct at the upper level, for NHAI approval.
New Alignment for Spur Line
Regarding the Mailardevpally and New High Court spur line, officials have suggested that it initially align with the left side of the PVNR Expressway at Aramghar. It will then shift to the right side, adjacent to the Agriculture University, at an appropriate point between the PVNR Expressway and the Agriculture University flyover.
These developments signify significant progress in Hyderabad’s Metro expansion, aiming to improve urban connectivity and address the growing transportation needs of the city.

Addressing Traffic Woes and Connectivity:
- Reduced Congestion: By encouraging a shift towards mass rapid transit, the corridor aims to lessen the number of vehicles on the road, significantly reducing traffic congestion, especially during peak hours.
- Enhanced Connectivity: This strategic route will bridge the gap between the bustling IT hub of Miyapur and the industrial and educational center of Patancheru. This improved connectivity will benefit residents, professionals, and students alike, fostering easier access to workplaces, educational institutions, and other vital destinations.
Boosting Economic Growth:
- Improved Business Environment: Enhanced connectivity will streamline movement of people and goods, making it easier for businesses to operate and connect with clients and partners. This improved efficiency is expected to stimulate economic growth within the region.
- Unlocking Real Estate Potential: The metro corridor’s proximity to key areas is likely to attract further development and investment in real estate. This could lead to the creation of new business centers, residential areas, and commercial hubs along the corridor.
Promoting Sustainability:
- Reduced Air Pollution: By encouraging a shift towards public transportation, the corridor will contribute to a significant reduction in air pollution caused by car emissions. This will lead to a cleaner and healthier environment for Hyderabad’s residents.
- Sustainable Urban Development: The project prioritizes efficient land use through innovative solutions like the double-decker viaduct. This approach sets a precedent for sustainable urban development in the future.
Overall, the Miyapur-Patancheru Metro Corridor promises a multitude of benefits, including:
- Improved Quality of Life: Reduced traffic congestion and shorter travel times will lead to a more efficient and less stressful commute for residents.
- Enhanced Accessibility: Easier access to various parts of the city will improve overall accessibility for people of all ages and abilities.
- Smarter City Development: The project exemplifies a commitment to innovative and sustainable infrastructure solutions, paving the way for a smarter and more connected Hyderabad.
With its focus on solving traffic woes, boosting the economy, and promoting sustainability, the Miyapur-Patancheru Metro Corridor is a well-rounded project positioned to significantly improve the lives of Hyderabad’s residents and contribute to the city’s future prosperity.
