A patta is a record of the income of a property and a chitta is a document containing details of the area, size, and ownership of the property. As of 2015, these two documents have been merged and are available in Patta in their entirety with all relevant information. In Tamil Nadu, citizens can now check their Chitta Patta, Adhangarh certificate online. Residence certificate, ration card, citizenship certificate, and family annual income details.

A patta is a land record. This is issued by the government and is also known as the Record of Rights (ROR). The patta includes the patta number, district name, taluk, and village, owner’s name, survey number and plot, wet/dry land, land area, and tax details.
Chitta
This property tax document contains information about the square footage, size, and ownership of the property. This information is maintained by the village administrator and describes the nature of the land (dry or wet).
In 2015, the Government of Tamil Nadu introduced digitization of land records to facilitate the searching of land records online. An e-services portal has been launched to allow citizens to view their Pattas and Chittas online.
Types of patta
There are the following types of patta:
- Natam Patta: It is given to people who do not have their own house in the village where they have income.
- AD Condition Patta: It is the circular Aadithravidar Narang Dashirudar that is responsible for dividing the landless tribes and Adithravidars into various land parcels. The pattas will bear the signature of each governor along with the photo of the patta holder.
- Land handover patta: The government gives free land to people such as ex-military personnel and poor backward class people. This is called the land delivery belt.
- TSLR Patta: Town Survey Land Record Document
- Other types of patta include UDR (Update Data Registry), manual patta, 2C patta, joint patta, etc.

click on the option, you will get a new page, select the district, taluk, and village. after that, you can select either patta number or survey number, enter the captcha, and click on submit to get chitta/patta details
