Property taxes are an annual expense that varies by region. The fund assists the state government in providing citizens with a solid civic infrastructure, such as road maintenance, sewer systems, and public parks. Payment of BBMP property tax on time saves owners from severe penalties and, in some cases, permits them to take advantage of tax breaks.

In Bangalore, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) uses the Unit Area Value (UAV) system to compute property taxes. Property taxes, which vary by jurisdiction, can be paid either annually or biannually. The local authority calculates the tax based on characteristics such as the property’s size, location, and usage. The BBMP is organized into six value zones.
