Bangalore-Mysore Expressway: Key Features, Toll, Project Details

• The motorway now has ten lanes and is a national highway instead of a state highway. NH-275 between Bengaluru Nidaghatta and Mysuru will be 6-laned under the Bengaluru-Mysuru Motorway project, reducing travel time from 3 hours to 90 mins. The project cost was roughly Rs 8,480 crore for the 118 km motorway.
• The Prime Minister mentioned that the Bengaluru-Mysuru Motorway passes through the historic cities of Ramnagar and Mandya and that this will increase tourism potential and make it easier to visit Kaveri’s birthplace.

• The motorway aims to increase accessibility to tourist destinations such as Kerala, Coorg, Ooty, and Shrirangpatna, says Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Roads and Transport. In addition, Gadkari stated that the project included a section of the NH-275 and that it also included the construction of 40 minor bridges, 89 underpasses and overpasses, nine major bridges, and four rail over-bridges.

Bangalore-Mysore Expressway: key facts

• The 119km Bengaluru-Mysuru Motorway on NH-275 is a six-lane motorway in Karnataka.
• Bharatmala Pariyojana planned a 60% brownfield upgrade and 40% greenfield project to replace the canceled NICE Road.
• The Prime Minister officially launched the motorway on March 12, 2023. October 2022 was the previous deadline for the project.

It is divided into two phases:

Phase 1 (58 km) runs between Bengaluru and Nidaghatta, while Phase 2 (61 km) runs between Nidaghatta and Mysore. There will be fifty underpasses for cars and pedestrians, four railway overbridges (ROBs), forty-four small bridges, and nineteen big bridges overall.

Around Bidadi (7 km), Ramanagara-Channapatna (22 km), Maddur (7 km including 3.5 km of elevated highway), Mandya (10 km), and Srirangapatna (7 km), greenfield portions would create bypasses. In Srirangapatna and Kumbalgodu, toll booths are planned.

Beginning on April 1, 2023, the Bangalore-Mysore Motorway toll fee would increase by 22-23% per NHAI regulations. The additional toll tax on a round-trip will be Rs 250.

Big cars: Rs 270 (Rs 405 for a round-trip).
