Amravati Airport’s Opening Date

The Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC) will oversee Amravati Airport, and it is anticipated to open in July. Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of MADC, Swati Pandey, claims that approval for the project from the DGCA and other institutions is still pending. According to aviation expert Deepak Shastri, the Amravati airport project is behind schedule as of April 2024, and any expansion depends on funding.

Details of Amravati Airport’s Development

The Public Works Department constructed the Amravati airport’s airstrip in 1992. In 1997, the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) acquired it from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). The Airports Authority of India (AAI) was granted a 60-year lease on the airport by the Maharashtra government in 2014, with a monthly rent payment of Rs 100,000. As part of its development plans, the AAI intended to expand the airport’s runway to 2,500 meters to accept larger aircraft, such as the Airbus A-320.

The project’s land purchase process started in the early 2010s and was finished by 2013. However, development work did not begin until 2019 owing to financial constraints. That year saw the laying of the foundation stone, which marked the beginning of the building process. It comprised creating a new apron, an isolation bay, a taxiway, and a new terminal building in addition to extending the runway.

Facilities for night landings are proposed, but financing and official approval are still pending. The airport is a component of the regional connectivity-enhancing UDAN-RCS program. When the airport opens in a short while, locals and companies will have more options for travel.
