GHMC Aims to Collect Over Rs 1,000 Crore in Property Tax with Early Bird Incentives”
The GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) imposes penalties on property owners who fail to pay their property taxes on time and will levy a penalty of 2% on their due amount. The penalty is usually a percentage of the total tax amount due, and it increases the longer the payment is delayed. You can find more information about GHMC property tax penalties on the official GHMC website www.ghmc.gov.in or by contacting their customer service department
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) targets property tax collection of 1,200 crore within 30 days through an early bird scheme.
The scheme, which commenced at the start of the new financial year 2024-25, offers a 5% rebate to those who pay their property tax in full before April 30. As per date of April 5, GHMC has already collected 80 crore in taxes.
The 5% rebate does not apply to arrears from previous years, but only for the current financial year’s property tax.
There are 19 million property tax assessments in the city, and more than 100 million taxpayers took advantage of the early bird rule in the past five days. Last year, he collected Rs 787 million under this scheme. “Most of the taxpayers have expressed their interest in the early bird program, and expect 700,000 to 800,000 taxpayers to take advantage of this offer.”
In fact, early bird contributions account for almost 40 to 50% of total wealth. It is very important for GHMC as it occupies. These are taxes incurred during the financial year,” said a senior official from GHMC’s revenue department. At the beginning of fiscal 2023-24, GHMC had collected property tax of Rs 1,917 crore, an increase of Rs 257 crore compared to 2022-23, after collecting Rs 1,660 crore. The collection of this record is believed to be through the OneTime Settlement (OTS) system, which allows for a 90% interest exemption on property tax arrears until the financial year 2022/23.
- This initiative has raised nearly 300 million in funds from 2023 to 2024. Despite these efforts, GHMC continues to face challenges. Over 2 million property owners have outstanding dues, resulting in arrears worth Rs 3,200 crore. If the OTS scheme is excluded, the accrued interest on these arrears will increase significantly
